Young Kenyan Rally Driver Peter Horsey and his Ugandan born navigator Moses Matovu have completed their preparations for this weekends WRC Rally Turkey and the pair have pronounced themselves ready for action.
Horsey, who up until this weekend will not even have spectated on a World Championship Rally, has been in complete awe of his surroundings but admits that at least the terrain is more familiar than he was expecting; everything is just so amazing! I’ve watched WRC on Television before but nothing prepares you for the magnitude of it all! Having done the recce though I am pleasantly surprised that the stages are more similar to what I’m used to in Africa than I was expecting!
Matovu, like his young driver, is a WRC debutant, but with plenty of experience to call upon the East African based co-driver has been impressed by the organisation and logistics that go on behind the scenes; it is no mean feat preparing a three day rally, I should know as I have been clerk of course on our International rallies in the past, but I am impressed with everything so far. The stages are a bit rougher than I was expecting but that could work to our advantage!
Horsey and Matovu will drive one of the Pirelli Star Drive cars in six rounds of this years FIA World Rally Championship and will run with Car Number 37 on their Mitsubishi Evo X for the full season which begins with shakedown on Thursday morning.
