Malton Motor Club raised £3,426 for Calder Rally Rescue through their fundraising auction on Friday 3 August. The amount raised now ensures that the rescue unit can buy a new ambulance to continue their vital work in the sport. Around 90 lots were auctioned off in the event hosted by Sky News Sports presenter Jon Desborough at the Fairfield Manor Hotel near York, including T-shirts signed by former World Rally Champions Colin McRae and Petter Solberg and a day’s testing with driver Ryan Champion, with money collected from a raffle also going towards the cause.
Calder Rally Rescue are a group of medical volunteers who turn up week after week on various rallies all over the country in their ambulance with the aim of providing emergency assistance to those who need it, whether it be competitors or spectators.
They rely solely on donations to keep their important service going and were in need of a new unit to keep it running efficiently on events.
MMC member Nicola Harper, who organised the auction, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who came along to the evening and bid generously.
“It’s fantastic that the amount we’ve raised now means that Calder Rally Rescue can buy their new ambulance and keep their important work going, that was the aim of the evening. They play such a vital role in rallying and without them and other rescue units the sport would not be able to function.” |
