Multi-use Single Venue
This type of event is usually held on a disused airfield or vehicle testing ground with the surface being sound tarmac or concrete. Normally the event is held over one day. The cars, race suits and helmets are thoroughly checked, for safety and compliance with the Rules, from around 7.30 a.m. followed by the Documentation process where the paperwork such as MOT, Insurance and Licences are also checked. The Rally itself starts around 9.00 a.m. The events are not usually open to the public as many are run on Private or Ministry of Defence land. The numbers of entries range from 60 to 100 cars. The cars do not have to be taxed for the public road. The entry is split into several “Classes” e.g. cars up to 1400 cc, cars from 1400 cc to 1600 cc, cars over 1600 cc, 4WD Turbo assisted cars etc.
The event itself is divided into 8 or 10 “stages” with each stage being laid out slightly differently i.e. using different parts of the track, the use of cones and chicanes or a stage being run first in one direction and then in reverse. Each car is started at 30 second intervals and is given a finish time at the end of stage. Prior to the start of the event, Your Co-driver is given a pack of paperwork including a set of time cards and a diagram for each of the stages. The Co-driver should then be able to tell the driver what bends, chicanes etc., are about to be approached. The time you take for each of the stages is totted up throughout the day and at the end of the event the car that has completed all the stages in the least “total” time “wins”. Results are produced showing your “Overall position” in addition to your “Class position” i.e. how you compared with the other cars in your Class. Entry Fees: Will vary from event to event but are approximately £180/£200 per Event.
