Multi Venue Stage Rally
As the title suggests this type of Rally uses more than one location for its "Special Stages" linked together by public road sections. The "special stages" are either Forest (on loose mud or gravel) or Tarmac, although a few events use a mixture of both surfaces. The format is almost identical to the World Rally Championship rounds although on a smaller scale. Most UK events are run over two days with the pre-event Scrutineering (checks) and Documentation being carried out on a Friday afternoon/evening and the Rally itself run from around 8.00 a.m. on Saturday.
This branch of Rallying usually attracts a higher number of Entries than single venue, normally around 150 cars. The Entry is also split into a larger number of Classes* than single venue. Forest Rallying attracts large numbers of spectators who are encouraged to view from spectator areas although obviously it is relatively easy for spectators to roam freely through the forests. Navigation of these Rallies is by a combination of maps, tulip diagrams and pace notes.
There are 6 to 10 “special stages” totalling around 50 miles with 100 to 200 ‘road miles’ (depending on the event). Cars start each special stage at one minute intervals and are timed from the start of the stage to the finish. You are also given a set amount of time for each road section and the timing for the road sections are usually averaged at around 26 mph to give just enough time that you don’t need to break the speed limits (but not enough time to stop and admire the scenery). At the end of the rally the stage times are added up and the car with the least total amount of time wins. You can be penalised for booking in late or early at the time controls at the end of each road section. These penalty times will be added to your total stage times. The results show your overall position and your Class position. Entry Fees: Will vary from event to event but are approximately £380/£400 per Event.
