CANCELLED - Offical Announcement from the Organising Commitee

Yesterday, the 13th March, was the first closing day for entries for the 2008 event. Sadly, the number of entries received was seriously short of the break-even point financially. Past experience tells us that we are unlikely to see a significant increase in the entry after that date. Therefore, the Organising Committee has decided to limit the financial loss already expended and cancel the event.

This decision hasn’t been taken lightly as we were keen to continue the long tradition of the Tour of Cornwall, over 21 years, as well as offering continued support to the Cancer Care Hospices in Cornwall. As you know we have donated over £100,000 to the Combined Hospices over the years including the efforts of the Organisers of the Classic Tour. We will be returning entry fees in full to those supporters of the event who have already entered. We thank them for their support. If, however, you wish to help the Hospices we would be pleased to receive any contributions you would wish to make and forward them to the Hospice in your name.

Many of you will be aware of the reasons for the change of format for 2008. We were unable to visit Boconnoc this year due to access restrictions and we had little option but to revise the format of the event. However, we believed that we had assembled a cost effective package which maximised stage miles vs. road miles. It seems that this wasn’t to competitors’ expectations.

The Organisers thank their supporters and volunteers as well as the Championships who have aligned themselves to the event and express their disappointment that we were unable to run the event. We have started our discussions for 2009 and trust that competitors will return to Cornwall then.
